Permitted Development Rights
Monday 5th October, 2015
Are you taking advantage of the permitted development rights allowing change of use from Office to Residential? This process is due to change in May 2016. Are you still considering potential projects?
Current Permitted Development rights allow change of use from Office (Class B1a) to Residential (class 3C) but the simplified prior approval application process is due to end on 30 May 2016. This means that all existing projects need to be completed and occupied by this date or may be subjected to new regulations if not.
In this regard, BTP Group have substantial experience and knowledge and are well placed to advise and manage clients and projects through this process, even now, with the date drawing closer. We are currently advising and working on various projects in this regard.
The previous government’s consultation document had indicated that they would seek to extend these rights to 2019 and amend the prior approval process. An announcement to this effect is expected over the coming weeks, with the current views being that there will be amendments to the current legislation as to applicable buildings and/or ‘worthiness’ of conversion.
How does this affect your plans? Keep up with updates by following the BTP Group page on linkedin, and don’t hesitate to contact BTP Group to discuss any concerns or possibilities.
